The Oprah Winfrey/Tyler Perry movie Precious has finally opened in San Antonio and movie goers are finding it an inspiring, yet tough movie to watch.
Based on the novel Push by Sapphire and starring Monique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Lenny Kravitz, and introducing Gabourey Sibidle, Precious is set in Harlem in 1987.

School is a place of chaos. Although Precious has reached the 9th grade with good marks, and the awful secret that she can neither read nor write.
Precious may be down, but she is never out.
Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakable sense that other possibilities exist for her.
Threatened with expulsion, she is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One, Teach One.
Precious doesn’t know the meaning of alternative, but her instincts tell her that this is the chance that she has been waiting for.
In the literacy workshop taught by the patient and firm Ms. Rain, Precious will being a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self determination.
Precious was an official winner at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and won three awards in the U. S. Dramatic Competition at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival --- The Grand Jury Prize, the Audience Award and a Special Jury prize.
Precious is the only film to win the Audience Award at both the Cannes Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival.
