Gateway to College Helps Drop-Outs

San Antonio College’s Gateway to College, a dropout recovery program for 16-21 year olds, enables participants to earn a high school diploma, with opportunities to simultaneously earn college credit.

There is no charge to participate. It is open to students, 16-21, who have either dropped out of high school or are behind in credits and in jeopardy of dropping out. Eligible students must have less than 17 credit and reside in the Alamo Heights, Comal, Northeast, Northside, San Antonio or New Braufels school districts.
Because students in SAC's Gateway to College© program come from a population that is at high risk for dropout, they are grouped as a learning community during their first semester, called the Foundation Term. The structure allows them to be enrolled in courses with their high school peers as they build their academic and personal skills and prepare for college courses. After successfully completing the Foundation Term, students will transition to classes with the regular college population.
The sessions will be held October 14 and 28 and November 11 and 18 from 6-8 p. m. at Travis Early College High School, 1915 N. Main.
Sessions are free but reservations are required. Interested students and parents should callSAC Gateway to College© at (210) 486-0170.
