voteOn April 29, the day that marked President Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office, the NAACP was in Washington, D. C., not to take part in first 100 days events, but to protest in favor of a law that their CEO and President says helped put him there.
The NAACP came together with a number of civil rights organizations to demonstrate in favor of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

First Lady Michelle Obama joined Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in unveiling a bronze bust of former slave, abolitionist and women's suffragist Sojourner Truth at the White House on April 29. Sojourner Truth is the first African-American woman to be so honored.

"I hope that Sojourner Truth would be proud to see me, a descendant of slaves, serving as the First Lady of the United States of America,” Mrs. Obama said.
